People. Culture.
Creative achievement.
African Origin is RIM's conversation and storytelling concept celebrating people of African origin and heritage, their achievements and their contributions across Africa and the global diaspora.
It offers a space to explore the people, places, ideas and cultural experiences behind a story, with an emphasis on dignity, curiosity and meaningful discussion.
Discuss a conversation
The world behind the film
A filmmaker's inspiration, a performer's interpretation or a community's experience can deepen the way an audience understands a film. African Origin can support that connection through interviews, programme conversations and appropriately cleared short content.
The editorial proposition extends beyond film to creative achievement, culture, history, enterprise and the experiences of people of African heritage worldwide.
Conversations around screenings and festivals
We can discuss an African Origin contribution to a screening or festival programme, such as a filmmaker interview or a moderated conversation. The purpose, participants, recording arrangements and permitted use are agreed for the activity.
These conversations can also complement a practical workshop, helping participants connect creative decisions with the context of the work.
Guests and editorial collaborators
We welcome introductions from filmmakers, performers, creative practitioners, researchers, cultural organisations and people with a relevant story or perspective. Tell us the subject, its connection to African Origin and what would make the conversation useful to an audience.
Programme and episode links will be added as material is confirmed and ready to share.
Learning through conversation
Organisations can discuss podcast and interview production workshops alongside the programme. This can include developing an episode idea, preparing questions, shaping a conversation and thinking about recording and audience engagement.
Let’s bring your next story into focus.
